The power of starting early
Compounding rewards time more than amount. ₹5,000 a month for 30 years at 12% grows to about ₹1.76 crore, while ₹10,000 a month for 15 years grows to about ₹50 lakh, even though both invest a similar total. Starting five years earlier can matter more than doubling your SIP later.
SIP vs lump sum
A SIP spreads your investment over time (rupee-cost averaging), which reduces the risk of investing everything at a market peak. A lump sum invested early has more time to compound. You can model both together with the lump sum field.

Frequently asked questions
How is SIP return calculated?
We use the standard formula used by most Indian calculators: FV = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly SIP, i is the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12) and n is the number of months. With step-up, the monthly amount rises every 12 months.
What will ₹10,000 per month become in 10 years at 12%?
About ₹23.2 lakh, on an investment of ₹12 lakh. Over 20 years it grows to about ₹99.9 lakh on ₹24 lakh invested.
What is a step-up SIP?
A step-up (top-up) SIP increases your monthly investment by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary hikes. A 10% annual step-up can nearly double the final corpus over 20 years.
Are SIP returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns depend on markets. Historical equity returns of 10–14% are not a promise. Use conservative rates for planning.
Is the result before tax?
Yes. Equity fund gains above ₹1.25 lakh per year are taxed as long-term capital gains when held for over a year. Check current tax rules.
