Why do I need rent receipts?
Salaried employees claiming HRA exemption (old tax regime) must submit rent receipts to their employer, usually between January and March, as proof of rent paid.
Is the landlord's PAN mandatory?
Yes, if the annual rent is more than ₹1 lakh. Without it your employer may disallow the HRA exemption.
Do rent receipts need a revenue stamp?
A revenue stamp (₹1) is needed on receipts for cash payments above ₹5,000. Receipts for bank transfer, UPI or cheque payments don't need one. The generator adds a stamp box automatically when needed.
Who should sign the receipt?
The landlord. Print the receipts, get them signed (and stamped for cash payments), then scan and submit them.
