Pick the right format

  • JPG: best for photos; opens everywhere; no transparency.
  • PNG: lossless; best for screenshots, text, logos and transparency.
  • WebP: 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality; ideal for websites.
  • HEIC: iPhone's default; small, but many Windows apps and websites cannot open it. See HEIC to JPG.

Which formats can I convert?

Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, SVG and iPhone HEIC/HEIF. Output: JPG, PNG or WebP.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose (white by default).

Is the conversion lossless?

Converting to PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP are lossy; at 90% quality the difference is not visible for photos.
