GIF tips

GIFs support only 256 colours per frame, so they suit screen recordings, reactions and simple animations better than detailed footage. A 5-second clip at 10 fps and 480 px is usually 1–4 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a video to GIF?

Choose a video, set the start and end (up to 30 seconds), pick the frame rate and width, and press Create GIF. The GIF is made in your browser with no watermark.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Use a shorter clip, a lower frame rate (8–10 fps looks fine for most clips) and a smaller width (320–480 px). GIF is an old format, so file sizes grow quickly.

Can I use it for WhatsApp, Slack or Discord?

Yes. Keep GIFs under about 8 MB for most chat apps. For longer clips, a short MP4 (see Compress Video) is much smaller and better quality.
